*Tender Loving Care for Pretty Young (and old) Trophies

Everyone loves a countdown. Think New Year’s Eve, the start of old movies, and David Letterman’s Top Ten. The 4s compiles decades of experience in recognizing excellence into Advice 4U.  Ladies and gentlemen…The 4s. “Hi there. Remember me? I’m your award. You worked really hard to get me. I have some advice 4U.”

The 4s   4 Things Your Award Would Say

  1.  “I was made for the spotlight.” You know how they interview movie stars and ask them where they display their Oscars? Think carefully about putting me in an appropriate place of honor. Personal awards look great on a mantle. Consider installing special shelves in a child’s bedroom. Work awards look great on the wall of your office. Display cases in a public space are terrific for group awards.
  2. “Tell my story.” Every award has a story to tell. Awards spark tales of our hard work and perseverance. They reveal our values and internal motivations. Regale them with your tale of victory.
  3. “Be proud of me.” Don’t brag, but do take pride in your accomplishments. Your sense of achievement is an inspiration to others. Perhaps you’ll motivate the next winner to take on a challenge and climb to new heights!
  4. “Dust me.” Don’t just leave me alone on the shelf. You worked hard to earn me, so take care of me. Give me a little polish every now and then so I can shine.

Don’t 4get: “I’m more than just a pretty face. I represent all the good things you do!”
