Recognizing Dad: 4 Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day

Whether it’s his first or his 50th, Father’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the father-figure in your life. This year, don’t just serve him breakfast in bed or give him a nice tie. Here are four fun and creative ways to spend the day so your father feels loved and appreciated.

  1. Take a stroll down memory lane. Even if your father is no longer with you, you can still honor and affirm him. Record favorite memories of you and your father by filling up a journal, writing a letter, burning a CD of your favorite songs or putting together a DVD of home videos.

  2. Go out on the town. There are many Father’s Day events that are free and fun for everyone in the family. In Tallahassee, Tom Brown Park is hosting a Father's Day bash with live music, vendors and activities for kids.

  3. Do his favorite activity together. Fishing? Cooking? Watching the big game on the flat screen? Whatever it is, turn off your phone, cancel your plans and do your father’s favorite thing with him. The time you will spend together will mean more to him than any gift you could give.

  4. Give back with Dad. Serve your community with your dad by your side by volunteering at the local homeless shelter or soup kitchen, donating clothing for men and children or helping out at a local charity event or fundraiser.
